THE EXQUISITE WHITE HOUSE CHINA OF DWIGHT D EISENHOWER IS NOW LOCATED

The Official White House State Dinner China of Dwight D. Eisenhower and Mamie Doud Eisenhower are particularly coveted pieces.  Why?  Because a total of Only 120 pieces were ever ordered by Mamie Doud Eisenhower for Official use in the White House. Mrs. Eisenhower's reason for making such a decision was because there was no justified need for a complete set due to the recent orderings from Presidents Roosevelt and Truman. But the Eisenhower's felt it was Important to at least have their own Representation  permanently in The White House Collection. Thus, no other fill-in pieces were ordered by the Eisenhower's other than The Imposing 11.5"  Service Plates.  The total of 120 Stunning Pieces were received, at The White House, in 1955.

Important Historical Note: The entire Rims of the Eisenhower Service Plates are covered with Pure Coin Gold in an embossed diamond pattern.  This expensive process of the Gold Firing to the wide-band Rims required an Impressive Eight separate Firings.....an extremely expensive process.  This had to be done in order to achieve the desired finish of such Extraordinary Pure Gold Elegance.

Interestingly, the Eisenhower's moved away from the precedent-setting direction of choosing the renowned Lenox China Co. (Lenox had been previously chosen by The White House from 1918 to 1955). Castleton was then called upon by The White House, as well as The First Family, and they showed they were up to the challenge in 1955.

In order for the reader to have a better understanding of the United States Navy and John F. Kennedy two eye-catching World War II photographs have been located and are depicted within this writing.

lt. john f. kennedyAN IMPOSING NAVY LIEUTENANT- JOHN F. KENNEDY

The future Presidents Father, Joseph P. Kennedy, had recently served in London as the Ambassador to the Court of St. James.  The Monogrammed Gillette Razor-Shaving Set of JFK's was retrieved by someone who apparently worked at the American Embassy.

At the beginning of World War II, Ambassador Kennedy and his family moved back to the United States and the future President's Gillette Razor-Shaving Set had apparently been left behind.  Many years later it made its way into an antique shop just outside of London. It was there where an off-duty American commercial airlines pilot happened to see it and he purchased it on the spot.  After that it was retained by this Pilot for quite a number of years-when finally this JFK Shaving Set made its way into the Collection of Raleigh DeGeer Amyx also known as The American Heritage Collection.  Historically speaking, it was of immense importance that the Pilot took the time to present Mr. Amyx with a detailed letter of Provenance covering his historic purchase. This was over 20 years ago.  To say the very least, this is a Magnificent and hertofor unknown Historic Relic.

DWIGHT EISENHOWER OIL PAINTING-TELEGRAPH COTTAGE-WORLD WAR 11

Of Major interest is the Discovery of an Important Historical Oil Painting by Dwight Eisenhower– the exact location of an impressive artistic rendering, having important World War II significance, is at long last being shared with all.

ike oil painting telegraph cottageIMPORTANT OIL PAINTING BY GENERAL DWIGHT EISENHOWER OF - TELEGRAPH COTTAGE - IKE'S EUROPEAN THEATRE WORLD WAR 11 HEADQUARTERS

This important oil painting (approximately 14" X 18") was accomplished by Dwight Eisenhower a few years after the ending of World War II.  The General presented this important artistic effort to his longtime Valet, Sgt. John Moaney. Not surprisingly, General Eisenhower's made a conscious effort to depict, via an Original Oil rendition, his own chosen World War II Headquarters – "Telegraph Cottage" – located just 15 miles South of London, England.

eisenhower paintingIKE'S AVID INTEREST FOR RELAXATION WAS OIL PAINTING - THE GENERAL DID THIS OVER A PERIOD OF MANY YEARS - IN EUROPE, AS PRESIDENT AND IN RETIREMENT

"Telegraph Cottage" was the Official location that Eisenhower selected to both live and work as he Commanded the European Theater throughout World War II. This effort culminated in the Surrender by Germany on May 7,1945. Coincidentally The German's Surrendered on the Birthday of The Commander in Chief - Harry S Truman.

Ike presented this Important Historical Oil Painting to his long-time Valet Sgt. Moaney, not only signing the front, "DE" but also writing, in part, on the verso of the painting, "For Sgt. Moaney - I  helped plan both Torch 1942, (the Invasion of North Africa) and Overlord 1945 (D-Day) - Telegraph Cottage - 15 miles South of London- DDE".

Years later Eisenhower authored a book entitled "At Ease - Stories I like to tell Friends"; and in that Book The General described 'Sgt. John Moaney - a man indispensible to me throughout my life'. And later, Ike also remembered Moaney by name in his own Will. Sgt. Moaney had first met The General in early 1942 in England. He was chosen by Ike to serve as his personal Valet. They both lived together within "Telegraph Cottage" thoughout World War 11.  Moaney was with Ike daily from 1942 until The President's Death in 1969; and Moaney was present at Walter Reed Hospital when the Great General breathed his last.

Sgt. Moaney married Delores Moaney about 1945. Delores  was The Eisenhower Family Cook for many years...serving at both The White House and for many years later at Gettysburg Farm. In fact both Sgt. John Moaney and Delores Moaney lived within their Gettysburg Farm Home - (Eisenhower's choice of permanent retirement) with Mamie Doud Eisenhower, long after The President had passed away.

RECENT DISCOVERY OF THE WHITE HOUSE CHINA OF A FOUNDING FATHER

a Majestic White House piece of China once owned and used by President James Monroe and First Lady Elizabeth Monroe has finally been located. It is an extremely rare Dessert Plate once in the Official White House China Collection.

WHITE HOUSE CHINAJAMES MONROE MAJESTIC WHITE HOUSE DESSERT PLATE

Pictured above is an 8.625" Dessert Plate – French; manufactured by Dagoty and Honore' - Nast Paris.  Some attribute this Stunning Plate to Andrew Jackson.  Recent investigation concludes that this is not so. After careful research, especially by Robert McNeil and Susan Gray Detweiler, this rendering is more aptly related to the James Monroe Administration – Why? Because the important  Mark on the verso of the plate (shown below) was used only during the years 1816-1820 - thus, James Monroe and not Andrew Jackson.

james monroe white house china VERSO MARKING OF THE JAMES MONROE WHITE HOUSE SERVICE

Other important points clearly establish the blue bordered service as coming from James and Elizabeth Monroe. Two cups matching this exact same service are currently at the Monroe Museum in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Also in the Monroe Museum is further Provenance of ownership, indicating that it came directly to them via descendants of President and Mrs. Monroe.  Also, pieces emanating from two other different Public Collections share a common Provenance through Descendants of Daniel Webster. These are specifically identified as the White House Service  having belonged to Elizabeth and James Monroe.

WHAT DID GENERAL GEORGE CUSTER WRITE AT THE BATTLE OF ANTIETAM?

What did Custer write during the Civil War-at the Battle of Antietam? Not long ago an important hand-written note (ANS) was located, in Virginia, not far from Washington, DC. The contents reveal a hands-on Battle Commander who at the moment of writing just happened to be Captain George Armstrong Custer.  The rank of General would be George Custer's within two years.

custer handwritten note ANSCAPTAIN GEORGE ARMSTRONG CUSTER'S IMPORTANT HAND-WRITTEN 1862 NOTE (ANS) - AUTHORED BY HIM AT THE SCENE OF THE  FEROCIOUS BATTLE OF ANTIETAM - JUST AS THE CONFEDERATES WERE RETREATING

George Armstrong Custer – (1839 1876) was a Captain of the Army of the Potomac in 1862.  The above Autographed Note Signed, by the dashing young Captain Custer, was written during the retreat of the Confederates - at Antietam in 1862. And a zealous young battlefield Captain (Custer) was in hot pursuit of the Confederates. Custer hurriedly writes from the Antietam Battlefield...."Col. Colburn ...We have captured another gun...a 12 pdr brass howitzer...Custer". At that time the young Cavalry Captain was attached to the Command of Major General George McClellan.

When all is said on both sides, George Armstrong Custer's Military Philosophy seemed to equal this: to be eminently successful on a field of battle; pitch in against all odds and then extricate oneself-as well as your troops-if the going gets rough.  At Battle of Little Bighorn not even Custer could save himself.  For this truly was....."Custer's Last Stand"

Illustrated just below is an extremely Rare 1787 Kentucky Land Survey, dated June 11, 1787.  Daniel Boone (1734 – 1820), was an American Frontiersman, Trapper, Surveyor and Pioneer Extraordinaire. And it was Daniel Boone that authored the remarkable Survey below.

In the late 1700s the Legendary Daniel Boone became an Official Deputy Surveyor in the Territory of Kentucky. In the top left portion of the illustration above, the actual Survey is shared for all to view.   Despite all the rumors that Boone could not read or write, what you are actually seeing here are detailed words and observations, made in 1787, by Daniel Boone and all words are in the hand of Boone.  In part ......"Surveyed 487 Acres of Land.... WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO FDR'S HOLY BIBLE FROM WORLD WAR 11?

Whatever happened to FDR's Holy Bible from World War II?  Well, this is a Relic of the Highest Magnitude in that it was a personal possession of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  Not only that, FDR had taken the time to include his Personal Bookplate attached to inside cover.

Shortly after the President suddenly passed away on April 12, 1945, while in Warm Springs, Georgia, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, directed that a few favored few White House Staff Members be Summoned. This Pesonal Invitation included longtime employee, Lillian Rogers Parks. She walked into the Executive Mansion bedroom.  Some of FDR's personal effects have been carefully laid out on the bed by the First Lady.  Mrs. Roosevelt said," take what you want now; because the rest is going to Hyde Park and you will never ever have another chance".

ASSASSINATION OF JFK ON 11- 22-63 - FLAG THAT FLEW OVER WHITE HOUSE

At last the location of the Official American Flag that flew over The White House on the Day that President John F. Kennedy was Assassinated has been officially located.  Over 25 years ago, it was presented to The Raleigh  DeGeer  Amyx Collection AKA The American Heritage Collection, by the White House Doorman  - Preston Bruce.  Impeccable Provenance accompanies this November 22, 1963 Official American Assassination Flag - An Historic American Relic of the Highest Magnitude.

BELOW IS THE OFFICIAL MOURNING FLAG OF NOVEMBER 22, 1963 - AS REMOVED BY THE WHITE HOUSE DOORMAN - PRESTON BRUCE

In the Historic Photograph featured below is Preston Bruce, White House Doorman, who served at The Executive Mansion from 1953 to 1977.  In the capacity of White House Doorman, Mr. Bruce, (the Epitome of what a Gentleman is), was in close proximity to the Oval Office while he served Presidents - Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon & Ford.

The elegant Preston Bruce is shown standing, dressed in his Tuxedo, in front of a Marble Mantle in The White House; in a photograph which he has personally inscribed to Raleigh DeGeer Amyx.  The Official Mourning Flag that flew over the White House - and at Half-Staff -  that dreaded November Day is approximately 5' x 9.5'.

We also show the Official American Mourning Flag as it flies directly above The White House on November 22, 1963.  This Flag actually flew at Half-Staff, above The White House, from November 19th to December 8, 1963.  This would have covered part of the Official Mourning Period of 30 Days for President John F. Kennedy...... and there was only one other Official Flag that flew over The Executive Mansion continuously during the 30 Day Official Mourning Period.  The second Official Flag is thought to be in the John F. Kennedy Library as Mr. Bruce believed that the second one was  presented to the President's Widow, Jacqueline B. Kennedy. Preston Bruce was also, with others, standing behind the Kennedy Family at Arlington National Cemetery on November 25th 1963  - The Day that The President was laid to rest. Of course, Mr. Bruce was also one of the Kennedy Family Invited Attendees at the Funeral Service of The President at St. Matthews Cathedral earlier that Dreadful Day.

Raleigh DeGeer Amyx is also shown above, with Preston Bruce in 1983, as he was presented The Official White House Flag of November 22, 1963. Mr. Bruce stated that following the Assassination of The President other members of the Kennedy family received a so-called "Official Flag" that was actually run up and down another flagpole, at another location at The White House. However, they would in no way have the early White House Documentation that accompanies this Official Flag. There is also another Special piece of White House Documentation that is not being shared here.

In the detailed full-page Letter of Provenance, addressed to Raleigh DeGeer Amyx, after Amyx and Mr. Bruce developed a close relationship, Preston Bruce states, in complete detail, many important facts of pertinent History.  Mr. Bruce explains his relationship with the President as well as specifics about the above Official White House Mourning Flag. Preston Bruce describes the Mourning Flag as faded some and torn at the corners.  Further, he states that he had written in ink on the White House Flag canvas edge ......" Preston Bruce, White House Doorman.... November 19, 63 - Rec. Dec. 8/63"......the exact dates this Official Mourning Flag flew over The White House. Also, Mr. Bruce wrote.... "Preston Bruce--White House Doorman, 53 - 77 (White House Service Years of Mr. Bruce), 19th NOV.  63 -- J.F.K."...... At the moment the above Official Assassination Flag was dropped to half-staff, following the sudden radio announcement of the Death of The President, Mr. Amyx was standing on the sidewalk outside The White House.  He stood staring straight at the American Flag, as it was sadly lowered to half-staff, as well as directly at the Executive Mansion.  Limousines began to turn into the White House front gate.....arriving from Congressional Leadership Offices.  Many sad days would follow.....far too extreme and painful to adequately describe within this detailed text.

This George Washington Survey is perhaps the Most Remarkable example of any Survey ever accomplished by the future Father Of Our Country.  Observe closely the Mature Script of the full page.......all in the hand of a youthful George Washington. Remarkable.  This part of the Presentation is Featured on the left side above.  Not only has Washington signed, at the bottom right-hand corner, (see top center illustration for close up of the 17 year old "Washington" Signature) but G.W. also meticulously Sketched, in Watercolor, the full Survey at the very top center left.  The location of the Lord Fairfax Ordered Survey - known as Broad Run of Occoquan - is not more than 20 miles from Mount Vernon. This historic area is still open to the public for visitation to this very day.

An Important Additional Rarity exists here. Look on the right side of the above archivally framed photographic illustration.  This Rare Manuscript is addressed on the top line to "Mr. George Washington".  It is dated 1749, to the 17-year-old G. W. as well......and the last four words at the bottom right, "of the Kings Reign", the Signature of Fairfax himself appears at far bottom right and is further illustrated in the lowest part of the center montage.  A Museum Quality Manuscript to say the very least. We know of no other one-page Washington Survey, in existence, with the Extraordinary Directive from the Powerful Fairfax himself. How the pair of Manuscripts - once separated - ever came to be Rejoined as One is an Historic Marvel.

Little known is the fact that Eisenhower was a Four-Star General for a period of 17 months during World War II.  For the final 7 months of this World Conflict Ike was a Five-Star General. At that time the Four-Star leather Jacket went to The General's Valet, Sgt. Moaney. There is no evidence, as of this writing, that it was ever replaced with a Five-Star Leather Jacket for the final 7 Months of furious warfare. It is possible, although Sgt. Moaney could not recall that event.

It has now been revealed that Eisenhower's Leather Jacket was presented, nearly 30 years ago, to Mr. Amyx by the Moaney's. Impeccable Provenance, in the form of a detailed Letter, on White House Stationery, was addressed to Raleigh DeGeer Amyx, attesting to all historic details many years ago.  Specifically, The Leather Jacket came from Sgt. Moaney and Delores Moaney, who was not only married to Sgt. Moaney, but was also the Eisenhower's personal cook. In fact, the Eisenhower's were so fond of the Moaney's that following the 8 years they spent together in The White House both Sgt. Moaney and Dolores Moaney were invited to move, with the family to Gettysburg farm, the retirement home of the Eisenhower's. This did occur following the Inauguration of John Fitzgerald Kennedy on January 20, 1961.

General Eisenhower, upon his death in 1969, also left Sgt.  his handsome 18 Karat Gold Rolex as well as a cash distribution as an additional token of his affection.  From 1942, until the President's death in 1969, Sgt. John Moaney was with Ike daily.  Years before the President's death, Eisenhower authored a book entitled At Ease; and, in that book he thoughtfully described Moaney as a man indispensable to him during his lifetime. They were Inseperable.
