WHITE HOUSE CHINA - WHITE HOUSE CHINA COLLECTION - GEORGE W. BUSH

The White House China of President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush is offered in this Important Presentation.

laura bush, rlaeigh degeer amyxFIRST LADY LAURA BUSH PRESENTS THE OFFICIAL CHINA OF LAURA AND GEORGE BUSH JUST NINE DAYS BEFORE THE ARRIVAL OF PRESIDENT-ELECT BARAK OBAMA AND MICHELE OBAMA

Total Press Scrutiny was avoided by President George W. Bush, with the Intriguing late arrival date of the 2009 Official White House China, by Lenox, Inc. By arriving during the George W. Bush Administration, with only 9 days to go until Inauguaration Day - January 20, 2009, Near Total Press Attention was Focused on Barack and Michelle Obama, as opposed to Scrutinizing each and everything that the Overzealous Press seem to specialize in – that being -  looking hither and yon for every tidbit of Bush activities that the Press thought it was their duty to dig up - even if their attention might better be focused on more Important Domestic and International matters. But, when all was said and done the President and First Lady spent zero tax-payer dollars on this Half-Million Dollar Porcelain purchase. All 320 Official State Dinner Pieces were bought and paid for by Donations from Friends of the President George W. Bush.

A Total of 320 Sophisticated State Dinner Pieces of Porcelain Mysteriously arrived on January 7, 2009 –  A mere 13 days before the arrival of President-Elect Barack Obama.  The total cost was $492,798.00 - A Half-Million Dollars! A Brilliant exit manuever on the part of President Bush - And the Permanent White House China Collection was Immensely Enhanced!

The Inspiration of the overall design of The White House China, with the close Collaboration of First Lady Laura Bush, was believed to have come from the Inspiration of our 4th Presidential Founding Father - James Madison, with the touches of First Lady Dolley Madison.

The Important White House source of information was not certain of the exact date that First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy presented her husband with this Important Presidential Seal Ring.  However, it was believed that the First Ladies Gift was received by JFK sometime toward the end of 1963 – but perhaps as early as The President's May 29th Birthday.

WHITE HOUSE CHINA - WHITE HOUSE CHINA COLLECTION - FRANKLIN PIERCE

Intertwined with the Official White House China Collection of Raleigh DeGeer Amyx is a recently located piece, that once graced the White House East Room, of President Franklin Pierce.  Perhaps this Elegance can best be described as Simplicity, with a Crest.  This pleasing Presidential China First arrived in the White House in 1853.

franklin pierce white house chinaTHE PLEASING TO THE EYE PRESIDENTIAL SERVICE OF 1853 AS SELECTED BY THE ADMINISTRATION OF FRANKLIN PIERCE

First Lady Jane Appleton Pierce and the President had this  9.25" Presidential Plate manufactured, in all probability  French; but definitely imported and decorated by, the then well known, Haughwout & Dailey of New York.  It Emphasized Golden Blue Rim Lines with it's Border Stippled in Gold. At the Center is an empty Blue and Gold Escutcheon.

franklin pierce presidential chinaKNOWN AS AN "ESCUTCHEON" THIS IS THE CENTER SHIELD AS SELECTED FOR THE FRANKLIN PIERCE WHITE HOUSE CHINA

This is one of the Rarer pieces of Presidential China, to Grace either The White House or any other Advanced Presidential Porcelain Collection - in that only 287 Pieces existed in this First and Final Order of this White House Pattern. Contrast this misinscule order of 287 White House China pieces with todays orders that ramp up into over 2,000 Presidential pieces per President.

franklin pierce, raleigh degeer amyxFRANKLIN PIERCE OF MAINE - THE PRESIDENT

Actually, Haughwout & Dailey were very bright marketeers, as they already had the newly elected President Pierce in mind.  Haughwout & Dailey were Exhibiting, in 1853, at the New York Exhibition at the Crystal Palace. Their express intention was in attracting President Franklin Pierce's Patronage.  And their elaborate planning and persistence paid off in Spades.

Although the 287 Total pieces of Pierce White House China were French-ware, the Franklin Pierce Service marked the very First Time that an American Artist Decorated all of the Presidential  porcelain table service that arrived at The White House in 1853. This particular Franklin Pierce 9.25" Presidential Plate is now a part of The American Heritage Collection (a.k.a.) The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection.

SOURCE OF LEATHER FROM REAR SEAT OF JFK ASSASSINATION LIMOUSINE KNOWN

John F. Kennedy – (1917 to 1963) - a Chilling pair of Relics from the Assassination of President John F. Kennedy: Two sections of the rear Limousine seat, (approximately 2.75" by 3.75''), upon which The President and First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy sat, when Lee Harvey Oswald pulled the trigger on his Mannlicher Carcano Rifle, so Tragically Ending the Life of President John F. Kennedy.

One section, Light Blue, composed the Main portion of the rear bench seat.  The other section is Presidential Blue, which composed the outside seat and upper seat trim.  The Light Blue section clearly shows Rust–Colored Staining consistent with Long–Dried Blood of President John F. Kennedy.

The Rear Seat Remnants are accompanied by a Detailed Letter of Provenance on White House Letterhead, dated November 22, 1982, (exactly 20 years after the Assassination of JFK); written by White House Technical Representative, F. Vaughn Ferguson. Special Note: Any and all other pieces of this Important JFK Assassination Leather Relic were once owned by F. Vaughn Ferguson via Raleigh DeGeer Amyx. There are no exceptions to this fact----now well Documented for a Quarter of a Century now.

Mr. Ferguson, whose involvement with the Presidential Limousine, before and after the shooting, is well documented.  Ferguson writes in part...."The Leather, is from the Automobile in which John F. Kennedy, President of The United States, was Assassinated, on November 22, 1963....Four days after the Assassination, The White House Upholsterer (Larry Arata) and I, removed this Leather at the White House Garage."

F. Vaughn Ferguson then goes on to describe the extensive modifications that were made to the Presidential Limousine so that it could be later used by President Lyndon B. Johnson.  In the letter Mr. Ferguson mentions that he drove the Presidential Limousine from Cincinnati to Washington in complete Secrecy to avoid the Press.

john f. kennedy and raleigh degeer amyxTHE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES - JOHN F. KENNEDY

Ferguson Does Not Mention in the Letter of Provenance that he was stopped in the middle of the night in the State of Ohio by the Highway Patrol for Speeding.  The shocked Patrolman did not complete the writing of the Speeding Ticket, once he became convinced that this really was the Limousine of the President of The United States.

Mr. Ferguson Concludes with Mentioning Details concerning his 20 year Career of Service, with the Presidential Limousine, at The White House.  Other items provided include a Color Photograph of Ferguson, actually signing the Letter of Provenance, as well as a Sadly Chilling Photo of the Bloodied Rear Seat of the Presidential Limousine, after the Assassination of John F. Kennedy.  Also, there is a Copy of a Newspaper Article Featuring Ferguson, which references his Involvement with the ill-fated Presidential Limousine.  Raleigh DeGeer Amyx and F. Vaughn Ferguson visited each other often for over 20 years.  They were Good Friends!

Among other things in the Newspaper Article Ferguson states...." FBI Agents had ripped the leather seats.  They told me that they had to do it to find the Bullet Particles from the Shooting." In the Newspaper Article Ferguson mentions that he took some of the Assassination Artifacts with him......" I still have some of the Leather from the Seats", Ferguson said. A Heart Rendering Relic from a Day That Shook The World – as well as Changing the History of the World.

Raleigh DeGeer Amyx and F.  Vaughn Ferguson remained close friends from about 1980 until his death over 20 years later.  Mr. Amyx met with Mr. Ferguson often, and on occasion, spent nights in the home of katherine and Vaughn Ferguson.  When Mr. Ferguson visited the Washington DC area, following his retirement, he always made it a point to visit with Raleigh DeGeer Amyx.

WHITE HOUSE CHINA - AMERICA'S 2ND LARGEST COLLECTION FINALLY LOCATED

America's Second largest Collection of Official White House China has been, at last, located.  It consists of well over 100 Official White House State Dinner China pieces.  At this moment, we will cover one of the most desired, as well as Rare pieces.  Specifically, let us take a close look at the Magnificent State Dinner Dessert Plate, as chosen for The White House, by U.S. Grant and First Lady Julia Dent Grant.

u.s. grant white house china STUNNING GLIMPSE OF THE OFFICIAL WHITE HOUSE CHINA 9.25" DESSERT PLATE OF PRESIDENT U.S. GRANT

Featured above and below is a 9 1/4 inch Official State Dinner, Dessert Plate – by a French manufacturer; but made by Haviland and Company. This Limoges hand-painted rendering, by a Gifted Artist, features a beautiful blooming Hosta. There were a total of 24 different American flowers authorized for use on the elegant service of U.S. Grant.

u.s. grant white house chinaA VIVID LOOK AT THE "COAT OF ARMS" AS SELECTED FOR USE BY THE PRESIDENT AND FIRST LADY - JULIA DENT GRANT

When President and Mrs. Grant moved into the Executive Mansion in March 1869, Mrs. Grant began, at once, to renovate to her own taste.  The First Lady's very first purchases, for The White House, commenced almost immediately and she continued to buy numerous historical items over the next six months.

u.s. grant white house chinaA BREATH-TAKING CLOSE-UP OF THE BLOOMING HOSTA ON THIS U.S. GRANT DESSERT PLATE

In June 1869, Julia Dent Grant was on full steam ahead to order Official White House China – her very own State Dinner service.  She does so through a Washington DC dealer, J.W. Butler and Brothers, located just 12 blocks down the same street - right on Pennsylvania Avenue.  They had been supplying miscellaneous China to The Executive Mansion for several years and they ordered the Grant China from Haviland and Company. Perhaps they did so because Haviland had been winning prizes in World Exhibitions; especially the Great Exhibition, held in London, England in 1851.

When the State Dinner China finally arrived, it consisted of only 587 total pieces - with Flowers and a top center Logo – known then as the Official "Coat of Arms".  According to The White House Curator, William Allman, the above piece, now in the Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection (also known as The American Heritage Collection), is as fine as any example of Ulysses S. Grant's Official White House China that he had ever seen.  This procurement, according to Mr. Amyx, involved major assistance on the part of Historian and Author, Bob Doares. Dr. Doares played a significant role in the acquisition of this Rare Example, which he shared with Raleigh DeGeer Amyx. Although over 100 other Official White House China pieces encompass The Collection of Mr. Amyx, the Grant selection is one of his very favorites.

WHITE HOUSE CHINA -ELEGANT-LYNDON JOHNSON SELECTION RECENTLY LOCATED

Lady Bird Johnson, with the President of United States in tow, selected this exquisite example as their Official White House China in 1967. Featured below is an 11 5/8" Service Plate, manufactured by Castleton China, a subsidiary of Shenango.  Lady Bird Johnson took hands-on interest in the Decorative Theme, including each wildflower, in attempt to recognize the State Flower of each of our American States, which appears on the border of most LBJ pieces. The First Lady, after careful thought, reintroduced the Old Eagle style Shield.

When Lady Bird Johnson made the determination to order the First State Dinner China since Harry S Truman in 1951, The President and First Lady  made a radical departure from the ever reliable Lenox Company.  The First Lady contacted Tiffany and Company of New York, as a Lady Bird Johnson coveted their highly respected design input.

Also, there was going to be another American First.  The Johnsons made a determination to purchase their exquisite White House China by using funds other than a Government Tax Based Appropriation.

the raleigh degeer amyx collectionLADY BIRD JOHNSON'S CHOICE OF THE DRAMATIC EAGLE AS A SHIELD FOR THE JOHNSON WHITE HOUSE CHINA - AN EAGLE DESIGN FIRST CHOSEN BY JAMES MONROE & LATER BY ABRAHAM LINCOLN

By May of 1967, Lady Bird Johnson had decided the main decorative theme of this new selection of White House China was to be the Above Eagle, but it would be in the formation of the Eagle that had been first used on the White House China personally chosen by James Monroe.  However, Mrs. Johnson's inclusion of Wild Flowers from all over the United States (see Border of the above featured Johnson Service Plate), was to become an Emphasized Principal Theme. This was very much in keeping with the First Lady's Special Theme throughout The Administration of Lyndon B. Johnson - known as The Beautification of The United States of America.

This piece is just one of several Johnson variations that appear in The Collection of Mr. Amyx. The existence of these Rare White House China pieces was not known until 2011.

WHITE HOUSE CHINA - HARRY S TRUMAN SELECTS A TOTAL CLASSIC SERVICE

Bess Truman and Harry S Truman chose, in 1951,this Classic example for their Official White House China.  Depicted below is a beautiful 11.375" Service Plate, by Lenox, Inc., of Trenton, New Jersey. By an Executive Order of October 25, 1945, President Harry S Truman ordered up the final details of a standardized Presidential Seal design and directed same Seal to be used henceforth.  By 1951, a new State Dining Room Service was determined to be needed, in part, to complement the total restoration during the period  1948-1952 of The White House, to include the State Dining Room.

truman service plateSTUNNING LENOX SERVICE PLATE (11.375") FROM THE TRUMAN ADDITON TO THE PERMANENT WHITE HOUSE COLLECTION

The principal design elements of the Elegant Truman China are a wideband soft green between Gold; and the outer rim has a Gold band etched with a cable or chain motif.  The Presidential Seal is rendered in a prominent Gold 3-D like effect. This Presidential Seal was then placed on each piece of the total of 120 piece Place Settings of the Truman White House China. However, The Presidential Seal  was prominently displayed in the exact center of the Service Plate only.

Without a doubt The President and Mrs. Truman had selected a Stunningly Elegant example that is not only a source of Pride of todays White House China Collection, but also coveted by advanced Collectors to this very day.

raleigh degeer amyx white house china collection ADDITIONAL WHITE HOUSE CHINA SELECTIONS FROM THE COLLECTION OF RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX

Official White House State Dinner China is considered to be a Rare collectible, as it is nearly impossible to obtain in authentic format.  However, in earlier White House days, Presidents such as Chester Arthur, would hold an auction on the White House lawn (hard for us to comprehend such an over the top act today) for items that were no longer in use, or met with President Chester Arthur's standards. Today, public auctions for White House furnishings? No way!  In the early 1890's, First Lady Caroline Scott Harrison, an accomplished painter of China herself, started preserving and inventorying the present Collection of White House China, which is now in use or on display at The White House.

WHAT EVER HAPPENED TO THE LEATHER TRAVEL CASE OF GENERAL EISENHOWER?

The Historic Leather Case General Dwight D. Eisenhower always traveled with, from 1942 to 1969, has at last been located. There was no place on earth that Ike ever embarked to that this Monogrammed case, along with Ike's trusted Valet-Sgt. John Moaney, was not in travel and the Case was always near the side of The General and or his Valet.

During World War II, beginning in 1942, it was the task of Sgt. John Moaney, the General's personally selected Valet, to hand-carry the above Monogrammed Leather Case whenever he traveled with the General and also with President Dwight D. Eisenhower.  There was absolutely no mission carried out by The General and President that this Handsome Personalized Leather Travel Case did not participate....along with unfolding and eventful history.

Sgt. John Moaney, coincidentally, married the personal cook of Mamie and Dwight Eisenhower.  This marriage occurred immediately after World War II and continued until Sgt. Moaney's Death in 1980. Historian and Collector Raleigh DeGeer Amyx was well acquainted with the Moaney's.  And they became staunch friends.  Part of the story being shared in this historic account is further expounded upon, in a detailed letter on White House Stationery, to Mr. Amyx. This letter contains critical Provenance to better explain the nuances as well as the importance of this Historic Relic.

The contents of the Eisenhower's Leather Case always contained the personal effects of The President, such as extra handsomely Monogrammed hankies, Monogrammed Eisenhower matchbook covers, a piece of Winston Churchill's Birthday Cake (this is still inside the Case, encapsulated in its original tiny box), a shoe polishing cloth for the General's shoes, as well as a Leather Wallet Monogrammed  "John A.
