GOLF BALLS FROM BAG OF THE PRESIDENTS-RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX COLLECTION

Featured in this writing are Three different Golf Balls owned and used by General Dwight D. Eisenhower.  All are from Eisenhower's actual Golf Bag.  Each is Personally Monogrammed.  On one, the Golf Ball  reads "Ike" and on another "Ike Eisenhower" and interestingly on another,"General Ike". This Rare Trio are each straight from President Eisenhower's Golf Bag.

President Eisenhower, can be seen, on a Presidential Journey aboard Ship, actually lining up one of the Golf Balls, with the aid of his Personal Valet – Sgt. John Moaney.  Moaney was Ike's Valet from early 1942 until General Dwight D. Eisenhower's death in 1969.  Day in and day out, General Eisenhower and Sgt. Moaney were in close proximity to each other.  And when President Eisenhower left The White House on January 21, 1961, Ike retired to his Gettysburg Farm in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  And there he set up a separate room for Sgt. John Moaney, so that he could always live, with his wife, Dolores, who was also the Eisenhower Cook - right there in the Big House with Mamie and President Eisenhower.

Golf Balls illustrated here are just a few of the examples from The Collection of Raleigh DeGeer Amyx.  Personal Golf Balls used by Presidents are not to be confused with the more ordinary gift golf balls.  All of the Golf Balls on display in the Amyx Collection (a.k.a.) The American Heritage Collection are only the Golf Balls straight from the Golf Bags of the President's. They include Golf Balls from President Warren G. Harding, President Richard M. Nixon, President John F. Kennedy as well as others.

The President kept his personal property, as illustrated above, within the White House living quarters until the Roosevelts permanently left, in 1909.  At that time, it was presented to a favored White House Employee as a Gesture of Appreciation.  When properly brought to the polished state of immaculate and unblemished appearance, T.R's Ornate Silver Frame brings on even more Stunning clarity.

The 1898 Rough Rider Venture into Cuba, during the Spanish American war, was perhaps, singularly the most Important Event in Theodore Roosevelt's Life.  Overwhelming Publicity was garnished from his role as a Rough Rider and it was a Major reason why he was elected Governor of New York.  And if he had not been the young Governor of New York, T.R. would not have been selected as Vice-President under William McKinley. And not long after, T.R. was to become an Accidental President, when President McKinley was Assassinated in 1901.  A few years later he was Elected President, in his own right, and Theodore Roosevelt's exploits, as well as accomplishments, have been carefully attested to by Historians over time.

ALWAYS PHOTOGENIC - PRESIDENT THEODORE ROOSEVELT

There was a Tremendous amount of Publicity resulting from the Rough Rider conflict during the 1898 Spanish-American war and the Gallantry of the future President was extensively covered by the Press.  At the time of the adventure, there was an Official Recommendation for the Congressional Medal of Honor. This Distinction of Bravery ultimately arrived on the desk of a Politically Conflicting - Secretary of War. The Secretary then refused to sign off on this Major Honor.  Many years of ensuing debate followed; with The Congressional Medal of Honor, the Epitome of Heroic Distinction, eventually being Approved and Awarded by President William Jefferson Clinton in 2001.

HISTORIC LEATHER TRAVEL CASE OF DWIGHT EISENHOWER-THE AMYX COLLECTION

The Historic Leather Case General Dwight D. Eisenhower always traveled with, from 1942 to 1969, has at last been located. There was no place on earth that Ike ever embarked to that this Monogrammed case, along with Ike's trusted Valet-Sgt. John Moaney, was not in travel and the Case was always near the side of The General and or his Valet.

During World War II, beginning in 1942, it was the task of Sgt. John Moaney, the General's personally selected Valet, to hand-carry the above Monogrammed Leather Case whenever he traveled with the General and also with President Dwight D. Eisenhower.  There was absolutely no mission carried out by The General and President that this Handsome Personalized Leather Travel Case did not participate....along with unfolding and eventful history.

Sgt. John Moaney, coincidentally, married the personal cook of Mamie and Dwight Eisenhower.  This marriage occurred immediately after World War II and continued until Sgt. Moaney's Death in 1980. Historian and Collector Raleigh DeGeer Amyx was well acquainted with the Moaney's.  And they became staunch friends.  Part of the story being shared in this historic account is further expounded upon, in a detailed letter on White House Stationery, to Mr. Amyx. This letter contains critical Provenance to better explain the nuances as well as the importance of this Historic Relic.

The contents of the Eisenhower's Leather Case always contained the personal effects of The President, such as extra handsomely Monogrammed hankies, Monogrammed Eisenhower matchbook covers, a piece of Winston Churchill's Birthday Cake (this is still inside the Case, encapsulated in its original tiny box), a shoe polishing cloth for the General's shoes, as well as a Leather Wallet Monogrammed  "John A. Moaney", along with his personal ID photos still inside. Ike's Leather Case was handsomely Monogrammed on top with a brass plaque" DDE", sometime during World War II.

JFK, JR. - SHORTS WORN IN WHITE HOUSE -RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX COLLECTION

The featured shorts of JFK Jr., were worn by him, as a toddler, in The White House. They are Monogrammed on the front, in Blue, "JFK, Jr." They would have been worn by the President's son, Circa 1961-62.

There is Detailed Provenance from a White House Maid that often had direct responsibility for interacting with and caring for both Caroline and John F. Kennedy Jr. Her name was Viola "Big Momma" Wise. The writer knew her well back in the 1970's and 1980's. When President John F. Kennedy was Assassinated in 1963, the Funeral was held, November 25, 1963, the 3rd Birthday of JFK Jr.  Following this Sudden and Painful event in the Kennedy Family and in the History of America, a number of important pieces of the President and his Family were dispersed to those with direct Kennedy Family access. These Striking and beautifully hand-crafted JFK Jr. shorts are one of those more Important Relics.

Sometimes Viola "Big Momma" Wise would share stories, with Raleigh DeGeer Amyx, as related to her 30 Year Career at The White House. Some were put into writing. In this particular case, "Big Momma" shared verbally and in writing the following Kennedy Story. And this Story is also attested to on White House Stationery, as "Big Momma" explained, in a full-page Letter of Provenance, her Association with the Kennedy Brother and Sister. Anyway, there came a day when "Big Momma" was Rocking JFK Jr. And she looked at JFK Jr. and said, "You're an Ugly Darlin Baby - but you are the Son of a President and a Millionaire and so "Big Momma" is gonna keep on rockin you." And she would smile broadly at the young lad as she caressed him and she continued with a favorite chore of that White House day.

Featured is the World War 11 Leather Jacket of Dwight D. Eisenhower. This Class-One War Relic was, following the Death of Ike, in 1969, in the possession of his Valet and Friend, Sgt. John Moaney. Sgt. Moaney and the General first met in 1942 at Telegraph Cottage, 15 miles South of London - The Headquarters of The Allied effort in The European Theater. It was there that the General met with Moaney for the purpose of interviewing him for the position of Valet and Assistant to the Commanding General. At that time Sgt. Moaney had never even seen a General. But then and there Ike had Moaney reassigned to him at Headquarters. And from 1942 until the President's Death in 1969 (27 years) they were together each and every day. After the President retired, as President in 1961, Ike moved, with Mamie, to their new home in Pennsylvania - Gettysburg Farm. And Sgt. EISENHOWER'S ROLEX - LOCATED - IN THE RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX COLLECTION

Ike's Rolex was located recently.  This 18K Gold Rolex may very well be the most Important time-piece on the Planet.  It was worn by President Eisenhower, almost daily, throughout his 1953-1960 Tenure as Commander in Chief - at The White House.  However, it was actually presented to the General while he was the NATO Commander in 1950.

Therefore, Rolex obviously considered certain Manufacturing Milestone's as being of Major Significance.

General Dwight David Eisenhower wore this Rolex from the time of its 1950 Presentation until his death in 1969.  Before his Death, President Eisenhower saw to it that it was given to his longtime Aide and Valet - Sgt. John Moaney.  In a Book, Authored by President Eisenhower, entitled  "At Ease - Stories I Tell To Friends", Eisenhower described Moaney as a Man Indispensable to him during his life-time. An Exalted measure of Praise for his friend and confidant from the time of their World War 11 1942 meeting until Ike's Death in 1969. Ike and Moaney were with each other daily for 27 consecutive years.

JACQUELINE KENNEDY-ORIGINAL PAINTING - RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX COLLECTION

Sometime between 1961 and 1963, First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy observed a Large Oil Painting, of The White House, as it appeared in 1805. In fact, this same Original Oil Painting has been hung in The Oval Office by almost all Presidents for many years.

jackie painting|jbk painting|jacqueline kennedy painting|jackie art

ORIGINAL ART - BY JACQUELINE KENNEDY - AS FIRST LADY - A PAINTING THAT SHE ACCOMPLISHED FOR HER HUSBAND PRESIDENT JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY

The Highly Skilled First Lady Propped up her Easel (JBK is  featured with it in this same writing) and took her Watercolors and Brush to form this accurate and Beautiful Rendition of The White House - Just as it appeared way back in 1805 - when Thomas Jefferson was our Incumbent President.

The First Lady meant for this Original Painting to be Personally Presented to her Husband, The President. And, Mrs. Kennedy was quite clear in her wishes in that she uncharacteristically Signed this 5" x 7" inch Painting in an unusual format. Almost always Jacqueline Kennedy Signed her Artistic Renderings - "J B K ".  However, Mrs. Kennedy Signed this Very Personal Example, "J to J" (Jacqueline to Jack).  It is now an Historic and Important Piece of our American History.

Of Serious Historical Importance is the Fact that President John F. Kennedy can be seen in this Feature sitting in his Rocker in The Oval Office. And The President is shown facing this exact same Original Painting, as it rests not far away, on the Round Table to JFK's right, under a Lamp and on a small Easel. An Extraordinary glimpse of American History, indeed.

Edison was a Genius in the practical application of scientific principle and is considered perhaps the Greatest Productive Inventor of All–Time. Thomas Edison's formal education was limited to almost nothing.  But rather like Abraham Lincoln, there was a Genius always lurking within.  And in total truth, Edison was a self-made man.

Edison was perhaps most notably known for the Invention of the phonograph and the incandescent illuminating bulb.  Edison's other Inventions included the alkaline storage battery and a system of telegraphy for communicating with moving trains.  Edison's northern Laboratory was based in West Orange, New Jersey, although he also had a smaller one in Fort Myers, Florida. There Edison joined other Great Americans, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone; as they sometimes saw each other as they winter vacationed in Fort Myer, Florida.

0LYMPICS - 1908 SILVER WINNERS MEDAL -RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX COLLECTION

Featured, from The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection, is a Mint Condition 1908 Silver Medal (30mm) - Presented in London, England, at the IV Olympiad. Interestingly, the Olympic Sport was for Racquets - The first and only time this event was Sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.). An Elite Athlete, that competed in this event, almost always competed at the Olympics in Tennis as well.  And that was the case with the Elite Winner of this Olympic Prize Medal, one Henry Leaf of Great Britain

In these 1908 Olympics a Major Controversy erupted.  Heated arguments arose among the American Delegation and the British Delegation.  United States, Team Management, accused the British Host Nation of Judge Partiality. In other words, the Americans accused the British of Cheating. After further Investigation, the I.O.C. agreed with the Accusations made by the Americans and they Ordered Major changes in future Olympiads.  All Official Judges would, henceforth - and for the very first time, be used from multiple Competing Nations.

Another contentious issue was the fact that some Men had resisted for years Equality in Sports for Women. There was continued insistence by various Competitive Women (and by some men) that they be allowed to compete in many more Olympic Events.  Eventually the Powers That Be consented -  But it was a long hard road for Deserving Elite Women Athletes.  But their logical position eventually prevailed. And we, as Olympic Supporters and Spectators are the better for it. And so are the Internationally Popular Olympic Games.
