ETHEREAL 1914 SILVER MEDAL PRESENTED TO THE FIRST SUPERSTAR OF GOLF IN 1914 - THE LEGENDARY HARRY VARDON
Harry Vardon (1870-1937) - Harry Vardon was an English Professional Golfer from the Channel Islands. This elegant Sterling Silver Medal (pictured above - approximately 1.5" x 1.125") was presented to Harry Vardon in 1914. Vardon went on to become Golf's First Superstar. This Legendary Golfer won The Open Championship (a.k.a.) The British Open, a record 6 times (a record that still stands even today) and Vardon also Won The United States Open in 1900. Although Harry Vardon seldom ever came to The United States to compete, he was always competitive when he did so. He was accepted as a Superstar.

Vardon Stayed for Many Weeks and Toured the USA, Playing in more than 80 Matches. Vardon did not return to the United States for Competition again, until 13 Years Later, when he Competed in the 1913 United States Open, an event portrayed in the 2005 Film, "The Greatest Game Ever Played" -- At that legendary U.S. Open, Harry Vardon lost to American Hall of Fame Amateur - Francis Quimet....a former caddy. Vardon then waited until 1920 to compete again in America - once again in the 1920 United States Open.

This time Vardon was Runner-Up to Ted Ray. -- During Vardon's legendary career, he won 62 Golf Tournaments, including one extraordinary run of 14 in a row - still a Record to this day. -- Harry Vardon popularized the Golf Grip that even today bears his name (the Vardon Grip), the Grip is still used by about 90% of all Golfers.
In addition to that, the PGA of America now awards the Vardon Trophy Annually. It is an Award of Great Distinction and is presented to the player on the PGA Tour with the years lowest adjusted scoring average. To this very day, the Great Harry Vardon is ranked as one of the Top 20 Golfers of All-Time.

Although this important Golf award, was presented to Harry vardon, in 1914, is currently in The Collection of Raleigh DeGeer Amyx (a.k.a.) The American Heritage Collection, there may come a time in the near future when it will be shared with an Instituion or another collector of note.
