Tiger Woods - An All-Time Extraordinary American Athlete

Tiger Woods at 2013 Masters

TIGER WOODS - CAUGHT IN A MOMENT OF VICTORY

Because the game of golf is all about quiet, intensely-personal focus, fans don’t see the emotional outbursts and drama that are typical in many other sports. Golf stars have been relatively uncommon, that is until Tiger Woods arrived.

According to his father, Tiger was born with a passion for golf. He was only 2 years old when he appeared on the Mike Douglas Show putting with Bob Hope. It’s hard to imagine how such a young boy could be inspired to master a game that requires careful eye-hand coordination and control. In-fact it seems impossible.

But Tiger Woods has never confined himself to the norm. Throughout his life, he has proven to be extraordinary in many ways. Although he is infrequently the target of racist comments, Tiger does not appear to be affected. Perhaps it is because he his ethnic background is a complex mixture of American Indian, African American, Chinese, Dutch and Thai. Setting him apart from the norm once again, his attitudes and cultural philosophies defy comparison.

The one thing that the American public does understand about Woods is his consistent drive and passion for the game. Tiger has remained focused and continually progressed as a youth, as an amateur, and since turning pro in 1996. He has had an extraordinary career already and he’s still a young man.

The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection has a stunning portrait of Woods dressed in red with his ever-present Nike cap crouching down to carefully assess his next putt. This beautiful portrait is inset within a stunning frame, surrounded by a mottled moss green matte with an inscribed plaque with a 16” X 20” handsome wood frame. Just below Woods’ prominent signature is the word “Focus” in his handwriting. One of only 25 copies, this stunning piece is much sought after.

After a few years of drought brought on by serious kneee surgery and his personal indiscretions, Tiger is back in the game. He has regained his focus and started planning for the future. Recently Woods’ friend and college roommate, Notah Begay III, a NBC/Golf Channel analyst, commented that Woods has a number in mind. Although he has already seized an amazing 14 major championship titles, he has set his sights on 20; two more than were captured by retired golf mega-star Jack Nicklaus. A super tough self assignment, to say the very least.

Any strategist will tell you that success can only be measured by setting goals. Woods sets the bar high for himself and, in effect, for his peers. The people who have seen his drive and determination up close have little doubt that he will get there. His performance within the last year is shows that he’s well on his way.

Tiger Woods Win of 4 Consecutive Majors - Tiger Slam

TIGER SLAM: TIGER WOODS' UNPRECEDENTED 4 CONSECUTIVE MAJOR CHAMPIONSHIPS - TAKE SPECIAL NOTE OF THE DOUBLE SIGNATURE TIGER EXECUTES - "TIGER WOODS" AS WELL AS "TIGER SLAM"

Tiger Woods is the only player to have won all four professional major championships in a row, now known as his “Tiger Slam” which consisted of the 2000 US Open, the 2000 British Open, the 2000 PGA Championship and the 2001 Masters.  This unprecedented accomplishment has been commemorated in a photographic display presented on framed 16” X 20” canvas and limited to 50 copies. The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection is proud to have acquired a signed copy. The stunning photos of Woods holding the respective trophies surround a characteristic portrait of Tiger gazing outward after a perfectly executed swing.

Earl Woods, Tiger’s father often commented on Tiger’s ability to provide a positive role model for numerous cultures because of his diverse background. As he travels the globe, he has become a global legend, defying all odds, exceeding all expectations. His magnificent portrait seems fitting against the coastal mountains in a portrait acquired by the Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection. The 8” X 10” portrait showcases the will and ability of Tiger Woods and is elegantly signed in silver ink. The color combination in this natural setting is stunning.

As he moves forward in pursuit of his record-breaking goal, Tiger Woods continues to elevate the game of golf to a new level in the United States and throughout the globe. There is no comparison to his drive and determination. His secret? It’s not about the competition, - The gifted Tiger Woods focuses on his own goals and he thoroughly enjoys the game of golf.

Of Historical Interest, is the report that Beginning in 1993 Officials - Representing the Ryder Cup - apparently Determined to Eliminate the Year of Competition from the Crest and place only the Site of the Competition on the Crest. Unfortunately, they seem to be leaving it up to those who are interested to Figure Out The Year of the Event on their own. These Officials made an arguably questionable decision.

THE FIGHT FOR THE RYDER CUP CHAMPIONSHIP CULMINATES IN THE WINNING OF THE RYDER CUP TROPHY - BY EITHER THE AMERICAN OR THE EUROPEAN TEAM

Currently, these Ryder Cup Crests, as well as many other early ones, are in The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection (a.k.a.) The American Heritage Collection. At some point in the future the entire Collection may be shared with another noted collector interested in preservation of this aspect of Ryder Cup History.

GOLF BALLS FROM BAG OF THE PRESIDENTS-RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX COLLECTION

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Mon, May 30, 2011 @ 02:31 PM

Featured in this writing are Three different Golf Balls owned and used by General Dwight D. Eisenhower.  All are from Eisenhower's actual Golf Bag.  Each is Personally Monogrammed.  On one, the Golf Ball  reads "Ike" and on another "Ike Eisenhower" and interestingly on another,"General Ike". This Rare Trio are each straight from President Eisenhower's Golf Bag.

President Eisenhower, can be seen, on a Presidential Journey aboard Ship, actually lining up one of the Golf Balls, with the aid of his Personal Valet – Sgt. John Moaney.  Moaney was Ike's Valet from early 1942 until General Dwight D. Eisenhower's death in 1969.  Day in and day out, General Eisenhower and Sgt. Moaney were in close proximity to each other.  And when President Eisenhower left The White House on January 21, 1961, Ike retired to his Gettysburg Farm in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.  And there he set up a separate room for Sgt. John Moaney, so that he could always live, with his wife, Dolores, who was also the Eisenhower Cook - right there in the Big House with Mamie and President Eisenhower.

Golf Balls illustrated here are just a few of the examples from The Collection of Raleigh DeGeer Amyx.  Personal Golf Balls used by Presidents are not to be confused with the more ordinary gift golf balls.  All of the Golf Balls on display in the Amyx Collection (a.k.a.) The American Heritage Collection are only the Golf Balls straight from the Golf Bags of the President's. They include Golf Balls from President Warren G. Harding, President Richard M. Nixon, President John F. Kennedy as well as others.
