This striking Gold Leaf Framed Relic was presented to some of the Official White House Staffers that served President William Clinton from 1993 to 2001. The beautiful fabric shown above is a Swatch of the Presidents Oval Office Sofa Upholstery Fabric shown below. President Clinton has also personally Signed the accompanying Cut Signature, which is framed with the Oval Office Fabric. All framing is believed to have been done by internal framers at The White House.  The actual swatch measures approximately 2"x 4". It is set off with matching burgundy archival matte, enclosed within an 8.5"x 8" frame. From the point of view of Presidential Gifts, this was obviously from The heart of President Clinton - straight to the hearts of those selected White House staffers that served him so tirelessly.

STRAIGHT FROM THE OVAL OFFICE DESK OF FDR - DEMOCRATIC DONKEY OF FDR

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Mon, Nov 14, 2011 @ 03:13 PM

FDR'S WHITE DEMOCRATIC DONKEY FROM THE PRESIDENT'S OVAL OFFICE DESK - A RELIC OF SUPREME HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE

This important Historical relic was presented to Toi Marya Bachelder (Pictured Waving below), who served FDR as one of his primary Secretaries from 1933 to 1945. Toi, a Polio Victim, first met the future President at Warm Springs, Georgia when she was only 14. Over the years FDR and Toi  became trusted friends.

Young Toi had been selected as one of the First 25 Test Patients at the newly designated Warm Springs Polio Foundation. All of the first 25 Children that were Polio Victims, mixed socially with the future President many times before he became President of the United States. FDR was particularly fond of Toi and she was the only one of 25 youthful Polio victims who was later invited to work alongside President Roosevelt, at The White House. These important Historical items were presented to Toi Marya Bachelder, who Served FDR as one of his primary Secretaries from 1933 to 1945. Shortly after the President's death on April 12, 1945, the First lady, Eleanor Roosevelt thoughtfully presented several important  pieces of personal property of the President's to favored FDR personages. And there were few so favorably chosen.

In the early 1980's, Toi Bachelder  invited her close friend,  Raleigh DeGeer Amyx and his family to go with her,  for what was to be her last visit to Warm Springs, Georgia. It was there that Ms. Bachelder introduced Mr. Amyx to several of those that  had served The President while he was residing in Warm Springs at "The Little White House" - "FDR's Cottage". It was there that President Roosevelt spent  many days passionately attempting to regain his health and vigor.

Years later Toi Bachelder shared, with her friend Raleigh DeGeer Amyx, a number of personal Historical Relics that were owned and used by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt. And that included the President's three "Ho Toi" figurines, as well as FDR's White Democratic Donkey, which the President often kept right in front of him on his cluttered Oval Office desk.

Toi Bachelder and Raleigh DeGeer Amyx were fast friends and often together for luncheons or visits between Toi's Washington D.C. home and Mr. and Mrs. Amyx's nearby Virginia home. These Rare pieces are presently, as they have been for over a quarter of a century, in The American Heritage Collection (a.k.a.) The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection. The five photos above, including the collage, Illustrate First Lady Abigail Adams' (1744-1818) beautiful Needle Case with pieces of lace and fabric (pictured below) from her dress. This historic dress and lace was what the First Lady wore at the time Gilbert Stuart so proficiently painted her for posterity. Abigail Adams is pictured
below wearing the actual Lace from The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection. Exquisitely embroidered by Abigail Adams and a remarkable and important collection of important items; which not only belonged but were created and made by Abigail Adams - Only the Second First Lady of the United States.

Included are two dress fabric Adams remnants & two different pieces of delicate lace trim, impeccably documented by an 1876 note (pictured below both left & right) from her very own Grand-Daughter, Elizabeth Coombs Adams (1808-1903), as well as a beautifully embroidered silk Sewing Case, also belonging to Abigail Adams. The famous Gilbert Stuart Portrait, of Abigail Adams, now in the National Art Gallery; shows her wearing a lace shawl with identical Lace Trim which can clearly be seen in the middle of her right shoulder as well as on the trim of The First Lady's right lower shoulder.

It is difficult to imagine more impressive socumentation for such magnificient and historical early 19th century personal artifacts of any of America's Founding First Families. Needle Case Belonging to Abigail Adams The Elegant Needle Case is of a stiff fabric (when fully opened it measures 3.5"x10") which was covered with off-white silk, on which a floral decoration was embroidered on each side by Abigail Adams. It all folds open, rather like a wallet, and contains various compartments for sewing implements. The Needle Case was obtained together with the other items, and it is accompanied by another note, in another hand, which is illustrated - reading...

Abigail Adams was one of our most Famous Americans and important First Ladies; and items owned by this remarkable woman are, perhaps, as significant as those of Martha Washington - And actually scarcer. FDR'S OWN HOLY BIBLE -ONE OF FDR'S RAREST PERSONAL POSSESSION'S FOUND

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Fri, Aug 19, 2011 @ 07:20 AM

Whatever happened to FDR's Holy Bible from World War II?  Well, this is a Relic of the Highest Magnitude in that it was a personal possession of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  Not only that, F.D.R. had taken the time to include his own Personal Bookplate, which he attached to the inside cover.

fdr's holy bibleTHE HOLY BIBLE OF PRESIDENT FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT - MONOGRAMMED IN GOLD WITH F.D.R.'S NAME AS WELL AS THE DATE OF JULY 25, 1942 - ILLUSTRATED AT RIGHT IS F.D.R.'S PERSONAL BOOKPLATE.

Shown above is President Roosevelt's Holy Bible with FDR'S own name, " Franklin D. Roosevelt", Monogrammed in Gold with an Imposing World War II Date of 1942.

PRESIDENT FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELTF.D.R. SHORTLY BEFORE HIS PASSING AWAY IN WARM SPRINGS, GEORGIA ON APRIL 12, 1945

Shortly after the President suddenly passed away on April 12, 1945, while in Warm Springs, Georgia, First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt, directed that a few favored few White House Staff Members be Summoned. This Pesonal Invitation included longtime employee, Lillian Rogers Parks. She walked into the Executive Mansion bedroom.  Some of FDR's personal effects have been carefully laid out on the bed by the First Lady.  Mrs. Roosevelt said, "take what you want now; because the rest is going to Hyde Park and you will never ever have another chance".

lillian rogers parks and fdr's bibleTRUSTED WHITE HOUSE EMPLOYEE, LILLIAN ROGERS PARKS WITH FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT'S VERY OWN 1942 HOLY BIBLE

Among other things, Lillian Rogers Parks, a favored Maid and Seamstress of 12 F.D.R's White House years, was given FDR's Holy Bible.  On April 12, 1983, (42 years later to the day), Mrs. Parks (pictured below holding F.D.R.'s Holy Bible) presented it to The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection (AKA) The American Heritage Collection--accompanied with detailed written Provenance of the Highest Order. Lillian Rogers Parks and Mr. Amyx were close friends over a period of many years.  Mrs. Parks had served at The White House for a total 30 years......through the entire Administrations of President's Herbert Hoover, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman and Dwight David Eisenhower.

fdr in moment of reflectionF.D.R. - AT HIS HYDE PARK HOME  -  THE PRESIDENT IN A MOMENT OF REFLECTION

Prior to that, Lillian Rogers Parks' Mother, Maggie Rogers, had served at the White House during the Administrations of President Taft, Harding, Coolidge, Hoover and Roosevelt.  When Lillian Rogers Parks passed away at the age of 101, Raleigh DeGeer Amyx was asked to be a Pallbearer at her Funeral. It was the final parting of two dear friends....Parks and Amyx.

While this rare personal possession of President Franklin D. Roosevelt (his own Holy Bible) is in the current Collection of Raleigh DeGeer Amyx, where it has been for nearly 30 years, the time is coming when it must be shared with an Institution or another Colllector of note. It is important that a piece of such historic merit be protected for future Generations of Americans.

GERONIMO - A NATIVE AMERICAN -BOLDLY SIGNED 1904 WORLDS FAIR PROGRAM

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Mon, Jul 11, 2011 @ 10:16 AM

Geronimo – Indian Name is Translated into “Goyathlay” – (1829-1909) This American Apache Chieftain was Admitted to The Warriors Council in 1846. Early on, it was Obvious to Other Apaches, that Geronimo was a Warrior to be Reckoned With. From 1885 to 1886, Geronimo Led a Furious Uprising Against The American White Settlers. Many Innocent Whites, as well as those Not So Pure, were Killed by His Fellow Warriors and Him. Eventually, Geronimo was Captured by General George Crook. The Ever Repressant, Geronimo, Planned his Own Escape and it Worked. He then Continued to Fight Against The Whites only to Finally Run Out Of Food And Ammunition, Resulting in his Final Surrender to General Miles.

Geronimo and The Apache’s that Followed Him were Forcibly Removed to Florida. Eventually, Geronimo, his Family and other Apaches were Resettled into the Oklahoma Indian Territory; Where he Gave Up The Fight Forever and Became a Farmer. By this time, Geronimo's Legend was Well Known Throughout America. In 1904, Geronimo was asked to Appear at The St. Louis World’s Fair. He Really Did Not Want To Do This; but when they said he Could Charge A Fee for His Autograph he Appeared at The World’s Fair in 1904, in Indian Garb, and Signed All Day Long for 50 Cents a Piece — Provided the Paper was Furnished.

JFK EYEGLASSES -JOHN KENNEDY PREFERRED NOT TO BE PHOTOGRAPHED WEARING

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Thu, Jul 07, 2011 @ 03:31 PM

Because of the meticulous care of the Prescription Eyeglasses of John F. Kennedy;  they have finally been located.  They are now in The Collection of well known Historian and Collector, Raleigh DeGeer Amyx......a good friend of several former members of the United States Secret Service - that served many of our Nation's  Presidents.

JOHN F. KENNEDY'S EYEGLASSESJOHN F. KENNEDY'S EYEGLASSES AS RECENTLY PRESENTED IN BLUE SUEDE - AND ARCHIVALLY FRAMED

Inspector Floyd Boring, a retired U.S. Secret Service Agent carefully documented and stored away the JFK's Eyeglasses for safekeeping.  Inspector Boring was the Secret Service's Inspector directly charged with heading up the White House Detail of John F. Kennedy. He did so during the entire Administration of President Kennedy. Not so many years after the Assassination of the President, both Mr. Amyx and Inspector Boring meticulously put together more detailed written Provenance on the Stationery of the US Secret Service.  The Provenance was signed by Inspector Floyd Boring.

HISTORIAN & COLLECTOR RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX AND INSPECTOR FLOYD BORING IN 1984HISTORIAN & COLLECTOR RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX AND SECRET SERVICE INSPECTOR FLOYD BORING IN 1984

Today, the Prescription Eyeglasses of JFK are handsomely and archivally framed; and often seen by numerous others during special tours conducted by Mr. Amyx. The reason that Floyd Boring (1915 – 2008) was often in possession of JFK's eyeglasses, was primarily because the President did not like his pockets encumbered with 3-D items.  Accordingly, Floyd Boring not only carried the eyeglasses of The President but Cash as well.  Why Cash?  Because JFK usually had none.  In fact, Inspector Boring would sit next to the President during Mass and slip him a  $100.00 bill to be placed in the collection plate.  Later that same day Boring would appear in the office of Evelyn Lincoln, the President's Secretary, and he would be reimbursed one-hundred dollars out of petty cash.  Evelyn Lincoln served as JFK's Secretary for twelve consecutive years and her office was located in the White House adjacent to the Oval Office.  Mrs. Lincoln  was also well acquainted with Raleigh DeGeer Amyx. She also contributed to Amyx's well known Collection, also known as The American Heritage Collection.

Later, Raleigh  DeGeer  Amyx had the historic good fortune of obtaining the prescription eyeglasses of Sen. Robert F. Kennedy as well as those of Sen. Ted Kennedy.  Since then, both of their Prescription Eyeglasses have been  framed with similar presentation impact. In fact, the framing of the Kennedy brothers Eyeglasses are as impressive as the hand-wrapped suede framing as seen on the President's Eyeglasses at top. All framing in the Raleigh Degeer Amyx Collection was accomplished by Rick Badwey of Showcase Portfolios located in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia.
