JACQUELINE KENNEDY-ORIGINAL PAINTING - RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX COLLECTION

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Wed, May 11, 2011 @ 02:48 PM

Sometime between 1961 and 1963, First Lady Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy observed a Large Oil Painting, of The White House, as it appeared in 1805. In fact, this same Original Oil Painting has been hung in The Oval Office by almost all Presidents for many years.

ORIGINAL ART - BY JACQUELINE KENNEDY - AS FIRST LADY - A PAINTING THAT SHE ACCOMPLISHED FOR HER HUSBAND PRESIDENT JOHN FITZGERALD KENNEDY

The Highly Skilled First Lady Propped up her Easel (JBK is  featured with it in this same writing) and took her Watercolors and Brush to form this accurate and Beautiful Rendition of The White House - Just as it appeared way back in 1805 - when Thomas Jefferson was our Incumbent President.

The First Lady meant for this Original Painting to be Personally Presented to her Husband, The President. And, Mrs. Kennedy was quite clear in her wishes in that she uncharacteristically Signed this 5" x 7" inch Painting in an unusual format. Almost always Jacqueline Kennedy Signed her Artistic Renderings - "J B K ".  However, Mrs. Kennedy Signed this Very Personal Example, "J to J" (Jacqueline to Jack).  It is now an Historic and Important Piece of our American History.

Of Serious Historical Importance is the Fact that President John F. Kennedy can be seen in this Feature sitting in his Rocker in The Oval Office. And The President is shown facing this exact same Original Painting, as it rests not far away, on the Round Table to JFK's right, under a Lamp and on a small Easel. An Extraordinary glimpse of American History, indeed.

Obviously, a piece of this Immense Historical Magnitude came from someone Trusted and with close Proximity to President Kennedy and The First lady - On a Frequent Basis. This Important information was provided by Historian and Collector, Raleigh DeGeer Amyx.

Edison was a Genius in the practical application of scientific principle and is considered perhaps the Greatest Productive Inventor of All–Time. Thomas Edison's formal education was limited to almost nothing.  But rather like Abraham Lincoln, there was a Genius always lurking within.  And in total truth, Edison was a self-made man.

Edison was perhaps most notably known for the Invention of the phonograph and the incandescent illuminating bulb.  Edison's other Inventions included the alkaline storage battery and a system of telegraphy for communicating with moving trains.  Edison's northern Laboratory was based in West Orange, New Jersey, although he also had a smaller one in Fort Myers, Florida. There Edison joined other Great Americans, Henry Ford and Harvey Firestone; as they sometimes saw each other as they winter vacationed in Fort Myer, Florida.

0LYMPICS - 1908 SILVER WINNERS MEDAL -RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX COLLECTION

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Thu, May 05, 2011 @ 06:39 PM

Featured, from The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection, is a Mint Condition 1908 Silver Medal (30mm) - Presented in London, England, at the IV Olympiad. Interestingly, the Olympic Sport was for Racquets - The first and only time this event was Sanctioned by the International Olympic Committee (I.O.C.). An Elite Athlete, that competed in this event, almost always competed at the Olympics in Tennis as well.  And that was the case with the Elite Winner of this Olympic Prize Medal, one Henry Leaf of Great Britain

In these 1908 Olympics a Major Controversy erupted.  Heated arguments arose among the American Delegation and the British Delegation.  United States, Team Management, accused the British Host Nation of Judge Partiality. In other words, the Americans accused the British of Cheating. After further Investigation, the I.O.C. agreed with the Accusations made by the Americans and they Ordered Major changes in future Olympiads.  All Official Judges would, henceforth - and for the very first time, be used from multiple Competing Nations.

Another contentious issue was the fact that some Men had resisted for years Equality in Sports for Women. There was continued insistence by various Competitive Women (and by some men) that they be allowed to compete in many more Olympic Events.  Eventually the Powers That Be consented -  But it was a long hard road for Deserving Elite Women Athletes.  But their logical position eventually prevailed. And we, as Olympic Supporters and Spectators are the better for it. And so are the Internationally Popular Olympic Games.

DANIEL BOONE KENTUCKY 1787 LAND SURVEY-RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX COLLECTION

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Fri, Apr 29, 2011 @ 03:30 PM

Daniel Boone (1734 -1820) was an American Frontiersmen, Trapper, Surveyor, and Pioneer Extraordinaire. Featured below is a near Mint Condition Land Survey, accomplished by Boone, in Kentucky. It is dated June 11,1787 - when Daniel Boone was Deputy Surveyor of Kentucky. Any imperfections observed on Photograph #3 below are due Totally to camera flash glare.

daniel boone survey|kentucky survey|raleigh degeer amyx|the raleigh degeer amyx collection|ARCHIVALLY FRAMED DANIEL BOONE 1787 KENTUCKY SURVEY - THE RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX COLLECTION

The Drawing of the actual Kentucky Survey is fully illustrated and was accomplished by Daniel Boone himself.  He wrote, in part, " survaid 487 acres of land......Daniel Boone D.  S.".  Daniel Boone fought during the Revolutionary war, then with great difficulty worked his way into Kentucky as one of the earliest Trailblazers.  Eventually Boone became a Legislator, Sheriff, and Official Surveyor.

daniel boone image|daniel boone painting|raleigh degeer amyx|the raleigh degeer amyx collection|DANIEL BOONE - A FEARLESS MAN SOMEHOW ALWAYS IN PERPETUAL MOTION

Daniel Boone was no Mythic figure in American history.  He was real. This was one brave man.  Careful study of his accomplishments, lead to the conclusion that Boone was an American figure whose deeds often bordered on Heroism that would be difficult to ever exaggerate.  Daniel Boone was once partially Scalped in Battle with Native Americans - And as a result, in perhaps Boone's only deference to Vanity, tended to nearly always wear a wig or a hat.

Important Historic Kentucky related material, Authored by Daniel Boone is Scarce in any form; but exceptionally so when a Rare one-page Land Survey is written entirely in the hand of this American Pioneer Extraordinaire.  The above - 1787 Daniel Boone Survey in Kentucky - is an Esteemed Addition to The Collection of Raleigh DeGeer Amyx (a.k.a.) as The American Heritage Collection.

CHARLES LINDBERGH 9X12" SIGNED PHOTO&HISTORY OF HIS ROMANTIC AFFAIRS

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Mon, Apr 25, 2011 @ 10:22 AM

Charles Lindbergh (1902 1974) - featured  is an Over-sized 9" x 12" Signed Photograph of "Lucky Lindy".  Lindbergh is considered to be one of the most Renowned Navigators in International History.  In early 1927, a wealthy American offered $25,000, (An Eye Popping approximately $500,000 in today's currency), to the First person on Earth that could Fly solo, non-stop from New York City to Paris, France.  Several well-known Aviators lay poised to accept the Challenge.  A few died and some were seriously injured.  However, another well known Aviator, Charles Lindbergh, accepted the Dangerous Challenge and in May 1927, he took off in the "Spirit of St. Louis", without even a Parachute, so that he could have added one extra gas tank - which would  even block a portion of his Important forward vision out of the cockpit window. Another of Lindbergh's Brazen Acts of Courage.

charles lindberg|the spirit of st. louis|lucky lindy|raleigh degeer amyx|the american heritage collection|LEGENDARY AVIATOR - 9 X12" SIGNED PHOTO - CHARLES LINDBERGH

Charles Lindbergh also had all other non-essentials thrown off the "Spirit of St. Louis"  before this takeoff.  It is hard to imagine today that anyone could head off into near Total Darkness without the aid of Navigation Equipment and then fly 31+ consecutive hours with Zero Sleep.  Lindbergh took a Bold step but somehow he was determined to make it happen - and this he did.

charles lindberg signed photograph|raleigh degeer amyx|the spirit of st. louis|the american heritage collection|A VIVID CLOSE-UP OF THE SIGNATURE OF CHARLES LINDBERGH AS SEEN ON THE ABOVE TOP SIGNED 9x12" OVERSIZED PHOTOGRAPH

Also Lindbergh was expected to somehow cross Newfoundland, Greenland and the Barren 2,000 mile Choppy Atlantic Ocean and maneuver himself into a Safe-Landing in Paris.  "Lucky Lindy" was flying a Ryan Monoplane, named "Spirit of St. Louis", which we picture in this feature, and a crowd of an estimated 50,000 Parisians were there to greet Charles Lindbergh - and the admiring throngs of Parisians almost Trampled Charles "Lucky" Lindbergh to Death - the soon to be Most Famous Man in the World.

charles lindbergh|the raleigh degeer amyx collection|raleigh degeer amyx|the american heritage collection|the spirit of st. louis|CHARLES LINDBERGH - A COURAGEOUS AMERICAN THAT SOARED INTO AVIATION HISTORY IN 1927

For this Extraordinary Achievement, Charles Lindbergh was awarded the Congressional Medal of Honor.  Following this enormous achievement, Lindbergh was besieged by the Press and by all other human species; as now he was, whether he liked it or not, the Most Famous Person on the Planet.

charles lindbergh|the spirit of st. louis|raleigh degeer amyx|the american heritage collection|the raleigh degeer amyx collection|lucky lindy|CHARLES LINDBERGH - THE MOST FAMOUS MAN ON THE PLANET

Later, the Stubborn Charles Lindbergh was to cross the path of no return when he made several positive statements about Adolph Hitler and Nazi-ism in the 1930s.  For such words, The President of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, found them unforgivable and when Lindbergh Volunteered, at the age of 42, to serve in the Army Air Corps, during World War II, the United States Government refused him. But the Persistent Lindbergh was awarded a contract, as a Consultant to the Ford Motor Company and the United Aircraft Corporation. Eventually, "Lucky Lindy" even wound up flying 50 Combat Missions over the Pacific, during World War 11, once engaging in a Dogfight with a Japanese Fighter.

  1. charles lindbergh|the adventurer|lucky lindy|the spirit of st. louis|raleigh degeer amyx|the american heritage collection|CHARLES LINDBERGH - "THE ADVENTURER" - BY RENOWNED ARTIST - RICHARD KRAUSE

Later Lindbergh served as a Consultant in the United States Department of Defense; and the ever persistent Charles Lindbergh became a Brigadier General of the United States Air Force Reserve, in 1954.  But one trait that Charles Lindbergh would never give up was a Major Stubborn Streak combined with streaks of questionable moral lapses in personal judgement - a Series of Unfaithful Relationships.

In addition to his wife, Anne Morrow Lindbergh, with whom he had 6 children, one of whom, Charles Lindbergh, Jr., was Kidnapped and Murdered. Following this, Lindbergh went on to have Numerous Affairs.  And each of these was kept quiet by him as well as by the different women involved.  As a result of his multiple affairs Charles Lindbergh apparently became the Father of 7 different children by 3 different women - with all of these Romantic Liaison's in Germany.  All women remained silent until their death and then, recently, irrefutable Evidence came to the forefront.  Even a DNA test was done on one of the children of one of his German mistresses; and with a 97.7% certainty - The Father was declared to be Charles Lindbergh.

Raleigh DeGeer Amyx has tried to provide a balanced portrait of a complex man who, nevertheless, will go down in History as a Great American. The above Oversized 9 x 12" signed photograph of the Famed Aviator may soon be parted with by Mr. Amyx but it is, as of this writing, still an Important addition to The Raleigh DeGeer Amyx Collection (a.k.a.) The American Heritage Collection.

WHAT DID PRESIDENT GEORGE W.BUSH SPEND ON WHITE HOUSE CHINA?

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Wed, Apr 20, 2011 @ 03:54 PM

The White House China of President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush is offered in this Important Presentation.

laura bush, rlaeigh degeer amyxFIRST LADY LAURA BUSH PRESENTS THE OFFICIAL CHINA OF LAURA AND GEORGE BUSH JUST NINE DAYS BEFORE THE ARRIVAL OF PRESIDENT-ELECT BARAK OBAMA AND MICHELE OBAMA

Total Press Scrutiny was avoided by President George W. Bush, with the Intriguing late arrival date of the 2009 Official White House China, by Lenox, Inc. By arriving during the George W. Bush Administration, with only 9 days to go until Inauguaration Day - January 20, 2009, Near Total Press Attention was Focused on Barack and Michelle Obama, as opposed to Scrutinizing each and everything that the Overzealous Press seem to specialize in – that being -  looking hither and yon for every tidbit of Bush activities that the Press thought it was their duty to dig up - even if their attention might better be focused on more Important Domestic and International matters. But, when all was said and done the President and First Lady spent zero tax-payer dollars on this Half-Million Dollar Porcelain purchase. All 320 Official State Dinner Pieces were bought and paid for by Donations from Friends of President George W. Bush.

A Total of 320 Sophisticated State Dinner Pieces of Porcelain Mysteriously arrived on January 7, 2009 –  A mere 13 days before the arrival of President-Elect Barack Obama.  The total cost was $492,798.00 - A Half-Million Dollars! A Brilliant exit manuever on the part of President Bush - And the Permanent White House China Collection was Immensely Enhanced!

Friends of President and Mrs. Carter presented them an attractive Service from Lenox decorated with the Gold Presidential Seal and a "Carter Green" Border, surrounded in Intricate 3-D Gold Detail. The well known White House China Collector & Historian, Set Momjian, spearheaded the private fund raising for The Carter China project.

Although the beautiful Presidential China is Marked in Gold – "The White House – 1980", this White House China was actually completed after President Jimmy Carter and First lady Roslyn Carter left The White House in 1981, for Plains, Georgia.

Therefore, almost all of their, "Official" White House China was delivered to the Carter Presidential Library, in that no public funds had been expended in the design and purchase of this Service.  However, it is believed that the Executive Mansion does have examples in their impressive White House China Collection.

OFFICIAL WHITE HOUSE CHINA - FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT - AMYX COLLECTION

Posted by RALEIGH DEGEER AMYX on Tue, Apr 05, 2011 @ 02:07 PM

Featured is the Official White House China of Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. Specifically illustrated is a 10.5" Dinner Plate – which was ordered by The Roosevelt's in 1934.  This Lenox production, at the suggestion of Eleanor Roosevelt, featured an inner Gold Border with Feathers alternating with Bands of Roses with Motifs. This Creativity was borrowed from the Historic Roosevelt Family Coat of Arms.

Simultaneously featured within this same presentation is the Official Service Plate, also Created by Lenox, for The U.S.S. Williamsburg.  It is a Stunning 11.5" Service Plate. There were other pieces of suitable matching China that FDR ordered during World War II for The Presidential Yacht.  Unfortunately, the April 12, 1945 sudden and untimely death of FDR meant that he would, sadly, never ever use or ever see this Gorgeous final U.S.S. Williamsburg Porcelain.

However, President Harry S. Truman immediately adopted it for his U.S.S. Williamsburg Presidential Yacht, were it remained and was used many times by him as he vacationed at his favorite Presidential Retreat in Key West. And it remained as the Official Service Plate on the Presidential Yacht until Dwight D. Eisenhower became President, in 1953.  At that point, President Eisenhower Decommissioned this large and Famous Presidential Yacht.

Only the U.S.S. Williamsburg Service Plate had the Dramatic Encircling 13 Gold Stars, representing the 13 Original States.  Following the Decommissioning of the Presidential Yacht, all of the U.S.S. Williamsburg China was taken to the Presidential Retreat, Camp David.  There this Beautiful China remained, for many years, until finally being retired.
